Labor Day Camping

Over Labor Day we decided it was finally time to go to the fabled Bear Lake. We had a blast. But now I know why, when I was a kid and our relatives from this area would come camp with us in Washington, they thought they had discovered a wilderness wonderland. Compared to what's available here, they had!

It was a great trip though. We took off Friday and set up camp, finding a spot easily despite not having reservations.
After all our gear was in order, it was business as usual, feed the kids and get them to bed! It went better than expected.

Saturday morning the boys went to play golf, while the rest of us went on a little walk, joined by some locals,

and napped.

Then we hit the lake. It was a lot of fun, despite the slight chill. The kids loved the endless sand.

Sunday was church, and some hiking, including ice caves. The kids loved those, and they were small enough that they could climb through them several times.

Monday we started out with a tour through the Minnetonka cave, which was very impressive.

Then we headed back to the lake. The weather was great when we got there, unfortunately it didn't last. The wind kicked up, and we packed up and left as fast as we could.

Everyone but Mithrandir slept the whole drive home, and crashed again as soon as we fell into our beds.
And that is how a great camping trip is supposed to end.
Just don't think about the piles of laundry waiting the next day ;).

That sounds fun! The Minnetonka caves are really cool. I have never been to the ice caves though. Stupid wind at the lake-happens EVER time we go!
